Neishaa Gharat is a British-Indian designer and founder of House of Gharats. She is based in London, a multicultural urban fabric with bustling communities, a city like no other. She believes that design is her superpower and with it, she can change the world. Neishaa, has made it her mission to “Change the world one scarf at a time”. Her designer silk scarf and pocket square collections are designed with a purpose, driven by values. Creating conscious luxury for artful dressing and living. She brings together style, substance and sustainability to empower, by contributing a percentage of sales profits from House Of Gharats towards education, skills training and mentoring programmes.
Neishaa, studied visual arts in the maximum city of Bombay now Mumbai, India. A Bombay girl at heart she embodies the colour, chaos, energy, spirituality, the very spirit of the city. She co-founded and pioneered one of the largest design studios of its time in Mumbai, working with international brands and influential figureheads. What’s most remarkable about her journey to create House of Gharat is, telling a story through her designs and diligently supporting British manufacturing, Italian craftsmanship and Indian artisanship. She passionately supports many charities and volunteers her skills. Currently, she is providing creative direction for special charity retail projects for the British Red Cross.
Neishaa & Pretam Gharat made London the creative capital of the world their home over a decade ago. Living amidst London’s hybrid cultures and global influences result in designs and objects that are profoundly modern and distinctively stylish, yet inherently classic. Her designs tell a story of the interweaving of cultures, social changes and this juxtaposes between tradition and modernity. Her work is a fascinating intersection of design, culture, craft and technology that wants to be a part of a new future.
A collaboration she is most proud of is working with The Big Issue Shop advocating ‘Shopping with a social echo’. A place to indulge in guilt-free retail therapy with a range of incredible products and brands that put people and planet first. Their aim is to offer a platform for social-trading that makes ethical shopping a truly accessible option, giving you the opportunity to use your spending power to make a positive difference to the world we live in.
One of her career highlights and the one most dear to her heart, apart from founding House of Gharats, is her appointment for a prestigious project by the Government of West Bengal in London for Biswa Bangla. it is an initiative that reaches out to thousands of craftspersons and weavers in the state, this is in response to the crisis of loosing long and traditional craftsmanship in this rural region. Textile makers in recent years have been affected by the rapidly rising fast-textile industry which has limited the demand for traditional woven textiles. This project helps these weavers to sustain their livelihood and continue to craft beautiful textiles.
Neishaa, along with her husband Pretam Gharat, were listed among the Top 100 Asian Power Couples in the UK. In 2014, Neishaa Gharat received the Global Indian Excellence Award from Lord Swaraj Paul and Abhimanyu Ghosh, Chairman WCRC. In 2015, Neishaa Gharat was shortlisted for the Asian Women of Achievement Award for Arts & Culture.

How can I describe my feelings about Neishaa´s work? House of Gharats is the place where, history, craft, culture and the future of fashion come together. The only thing that you need to do is go through her collections and read the stories behind each scarf and pocket square collection and then close your eyes. I can promise that you will see the world differently.
I feel lucky and blessed to be able meet and work together with Neishaa, she is an amazing person, and I admire her energy and determination for arts and crafts.
